The Confessions of a Fashion Buyer
When thinking
about taking on a career path as a fashion buyer, most if not many believe it
is an easy task. Having these assumptions is easy when the term buying is so
simply defined as a person employed to select and purchase stock or materials
for a large retail or manufacturing business. This very plain description
leaves out the immense competition, sought out planning, specific skills,
experience and talent not to mention the strict budget that must be followed. A
fashion buyer’s role is to execute the company’s strategy while remaining
customer focused.
My
ultimate goal is to become a fashion buyer for Polo by Ralph Lauren. Their
company in my opinion exudes excellence and takes pride in ensuring that all
employees are treated fairly. I will work towards obtaining this career because
the objective of pursuing higher education is to gain the skills such as good communication,
organization, being time efficient and knowledgeable by taking courses such a
fashion buying. This course gave me hands on demonstration to be able to
perform in this job field.
